Administrative Monetary Penalties
The Labour Program of Employment and Social Development Canada can issue a notice of violation to an employer for not following health and safety and employment standards obligations. It can also impose a financial penalty, which is called an administrative monetary penalty, or an AMP. Employers who disagree with the notice of violation or the financial penalty must first ask Employment and Social Development Canada to review its decision. If the employer doesn’t agree with the review decision, it can appeal the decision to the Board.
